Grade 5 - Ms. Michelle Robinson
The fifth grade Religion curriculum studies the seven Sacraments and their scriptural basis. It also emphasizes conscience, sins of omission and commission, personal and social sin and social justice issues.
In language arts we enjoy listening to, reading from and talking about books. We recognize and recall the main idea of a book, sequence, cause and effect. In speaking we share experiences and ideas clearly and expressively.
The mathematics student is expected to add and subtract five and six digit numbers, to multiply five digit numbers by two digit numbers, to add and subtract fractions with common denominators and to divide a decimal by a whole number. We also start to use geometric formulas and to construct coordinate graphs.
In social studies we develop a sense of the Americas as places linked by a variety of peoples and their artifacts. We also evaluate the consequences of different national aspirations, currencies and standards of living in the modern Americas. We spend quite a bit of time studying the other nations in North, Central and South America.
Our sciences touch on many topics such as the atmosphere, systems of the body (nervous system, muscular system, etc.), properties of minerals and physical science.
