Grade 4 - Mrs. Linda Hanna
Our studies in Religion focus on sin and reconciliation, the Spiritual and Corporal works of mercy and the precepts of the Church. We also learn about the major Old Testament figures such as Abraham, Noah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Moses. The students study prayer and liturgy, the Beatitudes and Saints as examples of Christian life.
In language arts we learn to distinguish fact from opinion and predict the outcome of stories. We also enjoy various literary genres such as fantasy, mystery and realistic fiction. In writing we learn to use the thesaurus to choose the exactly correct word for our need and apply basic editing skills.
The student of mathematics compares concrete representations of equivalent and non-equivalent fractions, estimates computations and learns geometric figures. We teach two digit multiplication and division with and without remainder.
We learn in social studies the history of Michigan including its geography, resource, early settlers and growth. Our scientists study plant growth, planets, machines and oceanography as well as factors that influence the long term viability of the rain forest. In health we talk about drugs with an emphasis on alcohol, nicotine and caffeine, and safety with an emphasis on safe swimming and diving. We also begin to discuss puberty and its effects.
